Chimney Inspection
Chimney inspections are categorized into different levels based on the extent and depth of examination required.
Level 1
A Level 1 chimney inspection is the most basic and is typically recommended for routine annual maintenance. During a Level 1 inspection, the chimney technician examines readily accessible portions of the chimney, checking for basic soundness, proper installation, and clearances from combustibles. It's suitable when the chimney and heating appliance haven't undergone any significant changes and there are no known issues.
Level 2
In contrast, a Level 2 chimney inspection is more comprehensive and is recommended when there are changes to the heating system or the property, such as a new heating appliance, changes in fuel type, or after a chimney fire or seismic event. Level 2 inspections involve all the assessments of a Level 1 inspection, plus a more thorough examination of accessible portions of the chimney structure, including its interior and exterior. This might involve the use of specialized tools like video cameras to inspect the chimney's condition thoroughly. Level 2 inspections ensure that the chimney is safe and in proper working condition, providing homeowners with greater peace of mind regarding the safety of their heating system.
